UC Santa Barbara has had some recent success against UNLV and the Gauchos almost had their fifth straight win over the Runnin’ Rebels.

Despite 36 points and 10 rebounds from 6-foot-5 senior guard Orlando Johnson, No. 18 UNLV was able to beat the Gauchos 94-88 in double overtime Wednesday night.

Both teams made big shots late in the game, the Gauchos’ biggest coming off a missed free throw.

UCSB tied the score 71-71 at the end of regulation when Johnson purposely missed a free throw and 7-foot-3 center Greg Somogyi picked up the rebound and scored.
